About FilamentBase

FilamentBase was built in 2026 to solve one of the most persistent frustrations in desktop FDM 3D printing: the absence of accurate, brand-specific calibration data. Generic slicer profiles get you close. Brand-specific, tested settings get you there.

Why FilamentBase Exists

A spool of PETG from one manufacturer prints cleanly at 230°C with 1.0mm retraction. A different brand requires 245°C and 1.5mm to avoid heavy stringing. The chemistry varies, the additives vary, the moisture uptake varies — and the generic "PETG profile" in your slicer accounts for none of it. Experienced makers know to run a temperature tower on every new spool. New makers burn through filament and time figuring out why the same settings produce completely different results.

FilamentBase publishes calibrated baseline settings for specific filament brands — not generic material categories. Every profile on this site specifies temperature ranges, retraction values, flow rates, bed preparation, and drying protocols for the exact spool you are holding.

What We Cover

We currently maintain profiles for 38 filament SKUs across 8 manufacturers: eSUN, Hatchbox, Inland, MatterHackers, Overture, Polymaker, Prusament, and Sunlu. Covered materials include PLA, PLA+, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, Silk PLA, Nylon (PA12 and PA6), Matte PLA, and Polycarbonate blend. We also publish in-depth guides on universal techniques: drying protocols, retraction architecture differences, stringing diagnostics, and material comparisons.

Our Approach

Settings on FilamentBase are derived from thermal analysis, published manufacturer specifications, and systematic calibration testing across both direct drive and Bowden extruder architectures. We document what the settings are and why they work, so you can adapt them intelligently when your specific machine or environment differs from the baseline.

All settings include a disclaimer: slicing profiles are sensitive to machine configuration, ambient temperature, and humidity. Our baselines are a calibrated starting point, not a final answer. The goal is to get you to a good first print on the first attempt, then give you the framework to fine-tune from there.

Revenue and Editorial Independence

FilamentBase is funded entirely by Google AdSense display advertising. We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, brand partnerships, or affiliate commissions of any kind. No manufacturer pays to have their filament listed, reviewed favorably, or ranked higher than others. Our calibration data reflects what actually works in practice, not what we have been paid to recommend.

Original Content Policy

All calibration settings, guides, and technical content on FilamentBase are original work produced by our team. We do not republish manufacturer spec sheets verbatim or scrape data from third-party sources. Every profile combines manufacturer specifications with systematic calibration testing and community-verified results.
